Need to apply for, renew, or update your UK driving licence? You can handle almost everything quickly and securely online via the official GOV.UK Driving Licences portal. [1, 2]
Here are the most common services and their specific requirements:
  • First Provisional Licence: Apply online at GOV.UK Apply Provisional. You must be at least 15 years and 9 months old, a UK resident for at least 185 days, and able to read a number plate from 20 meters away. The fee is £34. [1, 2]
  • Renew your Licence: Renewals are cheaper and faster online at GOV.UK Renew Licence. A standard renewal costs £14, but it is free if you are aged 70 or over. [1]
  • Change your Address: Update your address for free using the GOV.UK Change Address step-by-step service.
  • View your Licence Information: To check vehicle categories, points, or generate a “share code” for car rentals or employers, use the GOV.UK View Driving Licence tool.
If you prefer to apply by post, you can pick up a D1 form at most Post Offices.
